What distinguishes purebred Carniolan queens?
Both our production and purebred queens are Carniolan queens. The distinction is the breeding and mating arrangement: production queens are open-mated, while the purebred option uses a breeding station and selected drone colonies.
A purebred designation should not be understood as a guarantee of a particular honey yield, temperament or future colony performance. Those outcomes also depend on the receiving apiary, season, health and management.
Selected maternal lines and drone colonies
The maternal line provides one part of a queen’s breeding background. Our existing programme description also identifies drones from colonies selected by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia for the purebred mating arrangement.
