Last season, we diligently collected data on spring development, calmness, honey yields, hygiene instinct, varroa infestation and also the size of the winter nest. Before the final selection, a sample of bees is sent to the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, where they measure the cubital index and check the presence of Nosema (Nosema ceranae). Out of 300 bee colonies, only 1% of the colonies exceeds our criteria and are selected as breeder colonies.

Despite the fact that Slovenian beekeepers are known as a beekeeping superpower, can our apiary boast that we are one of the very few apiary that can boast of this type of certificate. It is even rarer to find an organic carnica queen bee (Apis mellifera carnica) breeder in Slovenia.

We are always looking for progress, that’s why our breeding of carnica queens is also under the control of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, thus we obtain important data on which lines have the most pedigree. We put a lot of emphasis on drones, so we have 140 colonies located near our open mating station and we know the origin and pedigree of most of them.
